Crumlin through the eyes of children and young people
TASC is delighted to publish ‘Crumlin through the eyes of children and young people’. This report is part of a UCD research project funded by Research Ireland called ‘A Just and Inclusive Transition for Children’ and is led by Dr Karen Smith. Dr Smith is a lecturer and assistant professor in the School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice at UCD. This report builds upon the People’s Transition for Crumlin, published in 2024. It presents reflections gathered from ‘walking interviews’ and workshops carried out with eleven children and young people aged 8-13 and four young people aged 16-18 who participated as ‘peer researchers’.
The findings from the study involve five main themes:
- ‘Things to do and places to go'
- ‘Getting around’
- ‘Connections to nature’
- ‘Local colour’
- ‘Complicated problems’
Findings from this report align with findings from The People’s Transition in Crumlin, particularly with regard to the importance of urban green spaces, the need for community social spaces and the importance of opportunities for consultation and participation in local decision-making.
