TASC launches the Youth Unemployment and the Youth Guarantee in Ireland

NO FEE YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

We are proud to share that the report Youth Unemployment and the Youth Guarantee, commissioned by the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) and produced by TASC, was launched yesterday. The report was launched at a roundtable in YMCA Dublin, where young people and youth workers responded to the findings and discussed their experiences of low pay, insecure work, and barriers to economic security and independence.
The report explores the fall in youth unemployment since the financial crisis, highlights the hidden barriers that are preventing real growth in labour market participation and addresses the changes needed to overcome them.
The findings showcase that youth employment and labour market participation remain well below pre-crisis levels, despite a recovery in the 15-24 population. They also reveal rising sub-minimum wage rates among under-20s, increasing numbers of young workers living with their parents, and high levels of social exclusion among young people. With 61% planning or wishing to move abroad within three years, the results point to a significant increase in emigration by Irish citizens, from around 13,000 annually before the financial crisis to 35,000 in 2025.
