1781531886439

TASC’s Executive Director, Dr Shana Cohen, participated in an expert panel discussion hosted by the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) on Europe’s evolving social policy agenda.

The discussion explored the current state of social policy across Europe and examined the key gaps and opportunities for strengthening the social dimension of the European Union. Panellists reflected on how European integration has shaped social policy over the past fifty years, including major advances in equality of opportunity, inclusion, fair working conditions, and social protections.

The event also addressed concerns that EU progress in the social policy sphere has slowed since the 1990s, raising important questions about the future of the European social model in an enlarged and changing Europe. With the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU approaching, the discussion considered how Europe can build a stronger and more coherent social agenda.

Dr Cohen contributed insights on the relationship between social policy and economic competitiveness, highlighting the importance of ensuring that economic growth is supported by meaningful social protections. The panel also reflected on the role of a strong European social model in shaping public trust in institutions and supporting deeper European integration.

TASC was pleased to contribute to this timely and important conversation on the future of social change in Europe.
