Re-imagining the Irish Welfare State Post-Pandemic - 12 May 9am to 1pm
This workshop, hosted by TASC - the Think Tank for Action on Social Change - will feature a panel of experts to discuss: ‘How the welfare system post -pandemic can better support the most vulnerable populations.’
The aim of the workshop will be to generate debate and discussion on ideas of welfare “deservingness”, and produce a follow-up policy brief focused on the limitations and benefits of the current welfare system and what specific reforms are needed to meet current challenges and future opportunities.
This event supports ongoing TASC projects on how social policy can better support victims of domestic abuse in Ireland, and an evaluation of a pilot social prescribing programme in Northeast Inner City Dublin, highlighting how greater investment into community development projects can improve the health and wellbeing of people living in disadvantaged areas.
Two parallel breakout sessions will allow for group discussions on two interrelated themes; these centre around the impact Covid-19 has on vulnerable households, and ask how current benefits support and restrict improvement in quality of life and life chances and the policy reforms and changes that need to be made to improve the economic, legal, and social position of the most vulnerable populations in Irish society.
