FEPS TASC Launch EU Mental Health Report
 

Mental health is an intrinsic human right and an invaluable resource for the European community. This policy study reflects on the current provision of mental health services in France, Ireland and Poland.

The authors review EU policy, to date, on developing a mental health strategy for the union and, for each case study country, outline mental health provision and the policy context to inform the findings from interviews with representatives of its mental health sector.

Mental health services are characterised by under-investment
Mental health services are characterised by under-investment, a focus on hospital treatments and a lack of primary and community services; workforce crises and barriers to access that include stigma. They fail to acknowledge the social determinants of mental health or address mental health inequalities.
As such, they lack resilience and do not have the capacity to respond to the rise in demand resulting from the increasing prevalence of mental health conditions. This crisis existed long before Covid. Read the article here
 
TASC Shared Island Online Event

TASC will host its third panel discussion as part of the Shared Island series on Tuesday, March 28th, from 11am to 12 noon. This discussion focuses on climate policy on the island of Ireland in the context of the absence of power-sharing in Northern Ireland. Panellists in this discussion include Professor John Barry, Ian Marshall and Clare Bailey. They will discuss how climate action in Northern Ireland will be impacted by the continued absence of an Executive alongside the role of the Shared Island Unit in supporting cooperation between communities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in the area of climate.

This event aims to provide a forum to discuss the government’s draft legislation on auto-enrolment to a new state-run pension scheme for workers who are not already members of an occupational or private pension scheme. At present, very large sections of our population will be without adequate incomes in retirement unless further provision is made for good supplementary pensions.

Financial Resilience Training Launch

TASC, the Think-tank for Action on Social Change has launched a three-year programme on financial resilience training throughout the country to help communities better tackle the cost-of-living crisis. The programme is funded by Aviva Ireland. It will be delivered through frontline charity services and community groups nationally through an interactive and educational financial inclusion and training programme.

The overall aim of the programme is to upskill individuals and households to better manage their finances. The free training will be provided to up to 50 charity staff members and 100 community participants each year, resulting in a positive impact on their families and the wider communities.
